Franco Harris is an American former football running back who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks. While Franco Harris is known for his impressive football career, he is also of Italian descent. Harris was born in Fort Dix, New Jersey, to an African-American father and an Italian-American mother. His mother, Gina Cercone, was born in Italy and emigrated to the United States as a child. Harris has spoken about the importance of his Italian heritage and has even visited Italy to connect with his roots. In 2014, he was honored by the National Italian American Foundation with its NIAF Italian American Hall of Fame award.
